Swamp Run
The quickest way to fix something is break it

Line

The party had been living the past few days on Syruss Shortroots‘s estate. The grounds were still open to them, but the seemingly free access they had to the manor’s interior became severely limited however. Guards were placed on the corridor where it was discovered Chowder Roughsole‘s room had become a portal to a swampland of unknown origin or locale. What they did know for sure was that three of Syruss’ guards had lost their lives, trying to contain whatever it was beyond that former bedroom door.

On the 7th day, Syruss summoned the group to the main hall of the manor. They were in timne to see a team of rough looking, very well equipped Dwarfs march into the main hall and present themselves to Syruss. Their leader was introduced to them as Blokk Ironheed. Amiably, (and probably intoxicated), the Dwarf acknowledged the youngsters and began explaining what Syruss had in mind for them. Syruss interupted with a severe look at Blokk. After a moment’s pause, Blokk jerked his head back slightly and the group noticed a glowing green lense that had covered his right eye slipped back into his helmet with a small whirring noise and a click. Syruss went onto explain the Dwarfs were master “miners” who were going to open and root out the sudden tunnel system below his estate. He next presented his findings regarding Chowder’s guest room.

Syruss explained that through much magical effort on his part and with some helpful advice from his imprisoned wife Selphyna Vengencya Shortroots, he discovered the portal to the swamp was being maintained by a magical pool somewhere within the swamps murky depths. The destruction of that pool shoul close the portal for good. Turning things over to Blokk then, the Dwarf quickly interviewed Allynn Elygyn, Gaelwyn, J. Hawkyns, Rabbye and Strawberry on who was the strongest among them. To punctuate his query, he had one of his band hand over a cobolt blue ball as large as his torso. After some amusing back and forth in the group, Blokk smiled and jammed the entire thing into a sack which he presented to Gaelwynn, who, though lean, was strong for an elf. The sack turned out to be a bag-of-holding which Blokk generously let her keep. He also presented J Hawkyns and Rabbye with Elven boots. Strawberry refused anything from Blokk — apparently tension existed there.

Elygyn wisely asked if they traveled deep into the swamp and destroyed the magic holding the portal open, how were they going to get back. Syruss assured them he would be able to extract them and get them back to the manor. Convinced, the party was escorted up to the hallway and to Chowder’s guest room door.

The door opened again to a twilight lit, foggy swamp and its heavy dank air made a sickly miasma in the dry air corridor of Syruss’ manor. Venturing in, they found themselves on a sort of land bridge with evil, flat black water on woither side of them disappearing into the odorous mists. The land bridge was made of gravel and mud and the sloping sides something large had clambered from the water and displaced some of the mud. That and muddy splatters on the door behind them explained what happened to the three of Syruss’ men over the cours of a week. Syruss closed the door behind them and the white, mud caked door stood incongrously in the center of the path with no frame to hold it up.

Swamp fog

As the door shut they heard a roar that might be distant, might be receding, might be any number of things impossible to determine in the thick atmosphere. Moving forward, the swampland stayed consistant, with the conical land bridges stretching maze like above the black water. Strawberry and Rabbye had a real bad feeling about a row of rocks they came upon in the water to their right, so they snuck by as a group. As luck would have it, Gaelwyn mistepped on a twig that snapped loudly. Almost immediately a slime tongue erupted from the water, locking onto the elf’s waist and jerking her from the path. Ready, Strawberry and And Rabbye ran down the slope into the water to compbat the giant toad, Hawkyns and Allyn slung stones at the creature and Gaelwynn manuevered her sword around but to little effect. Elygyn leapt down and grabbed hold of Gaelwynn whose but and torso were in the frog’s mouth while Starwberry and Rabbye hacked it to death. Allyn and Hawkyn’s pulled them back ashore while Oaklyn ran back and forth, whimpering and barking. Hawkyns yelled a warning and as he did, the second toad which gave the appearnece of disappearing under the water, was actually springing for a mighty leap. It cleared the water with a tremendous spalsh and landed on the path. This one was easier to kill then the first.

Other sounds assailed their ears as they plunged onward, more roaring and growling and frightened sobbing. Some of the party wanted to investigate but Gaelwynn kept them focused, reminding them of the bomb she was carrying in the sac-of-holding. The came upon another door in the center of the raised path and decided to check it out. It opened to a stone room slime covered, with a bloody altar against a wall. Rabbye recognized this as the small cult temple they found in the lower levels of the The Black Knight’s keep almost a year ago. They hurriedly shut the door and moved on.

The sobbing grew louder suddenly and they happened on a group of six people — 2 shadow elves, 2 elves and 2 elderly human who were comforting the weeping fair folk. They said they had been sacrificed to the “Neth-hakkar” to sate its hunger and keep it from the village and doors

It wasn’t long before things got deathly quiet and two figures approached out of the gloom, on a man the other a lizard man dressed in much feathery and fleshy finery, warning them to be quiet. The man was none other than the Black Night Agryl who recognized some of the party. Cursing them, he warned them to go away and be as quiet as they could, lest “the village be discovered”. Not knowing what he was talking about, they moved to challenge him when the swamp water erupted in a massive foamy torrent. The “Neth- Hakkar” had found them all. Standing 8 feet tall, it looked like a hyper muscular man covered in green diamond shapped scales with a monstrous Alligator head that could snapp any on of them in half in its monstrous jaws.

Starwberry moved in to fight it after Allyn cast magic missle at the creature. After a failed cast of light at the creature, Hawkyns and Oaklyn took the 6 would-be victims and ran in the other direction. Gaelwynn and Elygyn used their bows to try an pierce the monster’s hide. Lizard men suddenly showed up and the monster went crazy, launching itself at the new arrivals, giving the party time to escape.

The shadow elves were suddenly very distrustful of the party and wanted nothing more to do with them, despite the old couple’s pleadings and Elygyn and Gaelwynn’s reasoning. The old couple agreed to lead them all to the fresh water pool the saw up on the path to the west as the Shadow Elves went their own way. They’re piercing wet screams came from the fog not long after.

Finding the magical pool, the pary hatched a plan to lure the monster to the pool as the very short fuse set off the bomb, taking it and the portal with the explosion hopefully. As they set up and got their timing down, the monsyter showed up behind them, crashing on the land bridge from the water. They set off the bomb and ran like hell, the ensuing explosion was enormous and oddly blue. A door openeded before them leading to Syruss’ manor, and they all fell over each other, safe on the other side. The portal was closed.

The party’s journey so far had taken more of a toll on them then they had anticipated. Elygyn had not been with the party up to this point due to an assignment at school, but arrived on horseback as quickly as he could.

With very little prodding Edryc Bleu declared a day of rest, insisting they travel that night to make up for lost time. As the day waned into dusk, Edryc carried Morgan O’Malley out from the ruined manor to the coach they had been using. Their mysterious passenger left the coach and removed her cloak, revealing herself as a middle aged Elf. Edryc dressed the unconscious Morgan in the cloak, effectively disguising her. Edryc then informed them that they had, in fact, been the group assigned to the actual ambassador from Univerde and introduced them formally to Ambassador Daelynnwho very cordially and quietly thanked them. Daelynn cast dispel magic and one of the horses was revealed as a hippogryph which she mounted behind Edryc, flying east towards their original destination.

The party set out with Gaelwyn at the reins of the 4 horse coach, with Elygyn and Strawberry on horses. Hawkyns and Allynn were on the boot of the wagon, and since his horse had been killed, Rabbye accompanied Morgan O’Malley inside the wagon. Gaelwyn changed the coach speed at regular intervals, resting the horses yet keeping a respectable pace to their goal. As they traveled the well worn trade route, the scenery changed from fields to light woods to forests and ravines and cliffs. Hawkyns and Rabbye felt uneasy and looked up to see several winged beasts floating in circles above them. There were enough to blot out the many stars as they circled nearer and lower. Spurned on by their shouted warnings, Gaelwyn urged the horses into a gallop as the monsters attacked. Hawkyns miscast a light spell, lighting up the wings of one of the creatures. It hit the dirt, thrashing, clawing at its own eyes and screaming; it’s partner giving the bright light a wide berth. Elygyn stopped his horse abrubtly, swinging at the monster that remained but losing his balance, severly gashing open his horse’s neck, causing it to reel and get it’s head stuck in the rear coach wheel!

Gaelwyn felt the jerk of the wagon, barely stopping it just as two more of the creatures swooped in and plucked her from the driver’s seat. Hawkyns was picked up as well, but Allynn rescued him with his fireball wand. Hawkyns wasn’t too happy about getting singed eyebrows and clothes however. A pair attacked Strawberry as well, but he killed one outright and the other jumped on his horse with him. Rabbye tried in vain to fire off arrows from within the coach, missing both Elygyn’s and Gealwyn’s attackers. He decided to light the lanterns in an attemtp to ward off their attackers. Allyn cast a magic missile at on of the Gaelwyn’s attackers but it wasn’t enugh to get it off the elf maiden. Between screaming, she went to bite her assailants and one of them bit at her as well, missing and biting it’s own wing. Realizing they were getting away with her, Elygyn shot an arrow that pierced one of the monsters and got him to drop away from Gaelwynn. Rabbye’s quick thinking and agility provided light that warded off the other beasts as the ring of light around the coach became too bright for them. Gaelwynn was released and took a small tumble but landed lightly as she could, avoiding serious injury. Strawberry broke his remaining opponent before it could flee with the survivors. The party was able to continue on their journey and continue to the estate.

Woodchester1Syruss Shortroots welcomed them to his home and offered all the amenities he could provide, which, given his apparent wealth, were considerable. He made sure that Morgan O’Malley was taken care of and inspected for any serious maladies, (namely lycanthropy). He had fields of hippogryphs in training and younger stages around him. The group enjoyed lavish baths and meals as an opportunity to relax. Strawberry and Gaelwyn both discovered they very much appreciated Syruss’ apparent generosity and Strawberry donned an auspicious set of tuxedo style clothes while Gaelwynn went with a very daring, very revealing dress of elven make.

Dinner at syruss

At dinner, the group was introduced to some other guests that included businessmen in the area. One of those guests they quickly recognized as the halfling at the swamp ruins from two months earlier! Chowder Roughsole. They also met Syruss’s wife Selphyna Vengencya Shortroots, who had helped Chowder escpe them in the ruins of Column. They were able to calmly continue the meal but Chowder and Selphyna had recognized them as well! Whether paranoid or astute, Strawberry and Rabbye convinced the others not to drink the wine served with dinner.

Gaelwyn took special notice that despite the variety of servants and guards, there were no female Elves in Syruss’ employ. She also noticed that Chowder Roughsole appreciated her choice of wardrobe for dinner and informed the group she intended to flirt with him and see what could be learned from him. It was decided Rabbye would then sneak up to Chowder’s room and try an uncover anything usable. As dinner wore on and guests excused themselves, Gaelwynn and Chowder left the dining room to go for a walk by the stables, and much to Chawder’s chagrin, Strawberry tagged along. Selphyna had already excused herself and Elygyn made a very awkward attempt to accompany her that set Syruss Shortroots on edge, even after Selphyna brushed Elygyn off.

As the dinner party wound down and Syruss departed the chamber, Allyn and Elygyn went back to their rooms to try and maintain a sense of normal appearences while Rabbye snuck off to do his exploring. Something that struck all of them as odd was the silence of the manor and the lack of servants coming to clean up after the dinner. Then, they started finding guards and servants asleep in the corridors…

Outside, Chowder walked Gaelwyn down to the stables and paddocks, growing more and aggressively insistant that they “lose the dwarf”, Strawberry, who was shadowing them. Gaelwyn realized she wasn’t going to learn anything from Chowder and he grew increasingly sinister, until, fed up, he snapped his fingers and seemed to summon a gang of elven warriors from all around the,. Ambush! Recognizing them as Shadow Elves, Gaelwynn ran and started screaming like mad. She ran into the much irritated Strawberry and dragged him along as they were pursued.

At the manor house, Syruss confronted Elygyn, Allyn and Rabbye – who, spotting a mushroom growing incongruously from the wall next to Chawder’s room, declined to go in. Syruss demanded to know what had happened to his wife and why all of his servants were unconscious. A commotion and screaming from outside, led them to a balcony over the main doors where Gaelwynn and Strawberry were running from 6 assailants. Rabbye and Elygyn began firing arrows to cover their friends and Strawberry turned to brawl with the Shadow Elves, putting two down into the dust. Syruss opened the gates and escorted Gaelwyn back to her room quickly so she could collect her weapons. Upon returning, He found Selphyna about to help the shadow elves and Syruss challened her.

When it dawned on Chowder Roughsole that his accomplices would probably lose this fight, he ran as fast as his short legs and floppy feet could carry him. Gaelwynn became unhinged and launched herself after him, the group helping her pursue the halfling. As a sudden storm raged, they chased him into a hedge maze but he slipped away in a hole in the ground blocked by a seemingly impassable wall of rock.

Returning to the main gates of the Syruss’ manor house, they found the sudden storm must have been a magical duel between Syruss and his wife Selphyna. Selphyna had clearly lost, unconscious and face down on the flagstones. Syruss, very grim and quietly furious, ordered everyone back inside.

They ran to Chowder’s room, setting off the mushroom which screamed loudly. Syruss knocked it from the wall and Gaelwynn threw open the door, only to be grabbed by an enormous, sticky tongue. The group hacked it from her and slammed the door shut. Syruss was very unhappy.

Once again, the group: Allynn, Gaelwyn, J. Hawkyns and Strawberry were summoned by an aide to Cymantha Ferhety to attend her immediately. They were also told to pack their things for an extended journey. Elygyn was conspicuously absent from this grouping, but there was little time to look for him and a real sense of urgency in the summons.

They were directed to the joint faculty building and rushed into a large meeting room. Inside, they acquired a nagging sense of being in-over-their-heads. There was Cymantha Ferhety and the deans of the other colleges on the grounds Dean Thyamyn Malt and Brother Abbot Lawsyn Chanel standing with four, slight, cloaked and hooded figures that were virtually identical. Other groups of students — far more advanced in their studies than the group — were present as well, similarly packed for long journeys. Also, in the room were two seasoned warriors and two mages that made the most experienced of the students look fresh out of diapers. The four of them were paired with one of the hooded figures, and as they were, assigned a group of students. (The group got their first look at a warrior of the Atruaghin Clans, though they didn’t know it.)

At last, it was the group’s turn. They were somewhat put off by Cymantha Feherty who was uncharacteristically distant towards them, as if three months of doing her biddings hadn’t happened. Her aide addressed them, introducing them to Edryc Bleu, a road warden from the The Grand Duchy of Tansun, who would be helping them in their escort duty. Never once did he address or give any indication he knew the cloaked figure was there, standing very close to Edryc. They were told that the student conspirator they captured, Dembenek had given them enough information to determine there would be an assasination or kidnapping attempt on the Ambassador to Univerde. Four groups were being sent out in four different, yet logical directions, only one of which was the real ambassador’s party, to four destinations, each of which had the means to protect the ambassador once arrived. They were to head Southeast to a ranch built on land between the border of the Shires and make the journey in 5 days. They were supplied with a coach and horses and sent immediately.

Day One: The group is attacked while passing through marshy lands close to the shore of [[Lake Blue Silk.]] The giant worm like monster kills Rabbye’s horse outright and is put down by a group effort. Edry Bleu is disturbed by the creature and shares his misgivings quietly with the coach’s occupant. Rabbye wound up on the coach with Gaelwyn driving.

Day Two: Keeping the Lake to their right, the group began veering more northward on the road to take up their south eastern course. As the elevation increased and small cliffs now stood between the lake and the road, they noticed a set of boots and some glistening armor resting by a lonely tree on an overhang. Stopping to investigate, the discovered, the glistening was blood on the boots and the chest piece had massive punctures through it. The tree itself attacked them and they beat it back until it literally collapsed down the clif into a patch of writhing grasses and long, whipping weeds. The air was foul with the suspicions of dark magics at work. Before getting back on the road, Edryc burned the remains and grasses.

Day three: Some distance off the road, between the southern borders of the Central Forests and the Lake, the party heard screams. Just echoes at first, then mixed in with agressive, ominous growling. Edryc consulted with the coach’s occupant and directed the group to follow him to the distant building. When they arrived, the group was stunned to see huge wolfmen attacking what looked like a small commune of people at a well-to-do coaching inn. Edryc Bleu immediately jumped off his horse and beheaded a person running at him screaming for help. Shoulder to shoulder with the two wolfmen, he ran into the gate and courtyard of the Inn. Paralyzed with terror, the party milled nervously around, exchanging glances and half coherent wonderings until the coach’s occupant leaned out and informed them that the wolfmen were in fact friendly K’Naii destroying a coven of werewolves! One attacked Gaelwynn where she and Rabbye sat on the coach before a silver axe from a K’naii ended it’s life.
The K’naii led the reivigorated group into the coaching inn which was on fire now, following a scent. It led them to a room where they battered down the door and discovered a woman in once rich leather clothes and poet shirt that was tied up and much worse for wear. It was Morgan O’Malley. They rescued her and took her outside to the coach.

To be continued!

Stormy Johnny meets his match

Line

Cymantha Ferhety called the party to her office along with a friend of theirs Gaelwyn. She spoke in clipped, hushed tones about how magic items were disappearing from Narvesyn School and encouraged the party to keep their eyes and ears open. Between Stormy Johnny, their discoveries at the abandoned fighter academy and the missing magic paraphrenalia, something sinister was going on.

Blossoming excitement in town made its way to Cymantha’s open window. Observing what she could, she became aware there was a growing mob outside and sent the group to find the cause.

They were surprised to find a stopped cart in the middle of the road, drawn by a centaur in really sad shape. After learning from an elf bystander, Dembenek that the appalled people had stopped the coach driver, Gaelwyn jumped forward and began hacking at the ropes binding the miserable centaur. The driver revealed himself as Stormy Johnny by the orange skin and wanton cruelty. He attacked by the remainder of the party. Johnny was not happy about the centaur being freed, but then he had 5 other adventurers grabbing and attacking and had his hands full. The observing elf began acting supiciously in his complacency of the events unfolding, but everything was happening so fast! Bystanders were astounded at what was happening before their very eyes! After a minute of stumbling and slipping by everyone, eventually the driver was dragged from the cart, but not before Elegyn was magicked into becoming his bodyguard, seconds after attacking him. The crowd could barely contain themselves, but luckily Strawberry and Elygynwere able to convince them of the cruelty of this criminal and the city guards were summoned. The accomplice was found hiding under a blanket further back in the wagon. As Elegyn stripped searched Johnny, the accomplice and the suspicious elf tried to ride off with the wagon and the centaur. The hurricane lamp was opened and everyone was thrown! Johnny and his accomplice were knocked from the wagon and ran a new direction as the wagon went screaming West. The city guards followed the traiters unsuccessfully while the party took their prisoner to the academy where it was discovered, he isn’t Johnny at all! It was a student that was magicked to look like Johnny! This student had access to lots of magical items that the school had been missing! He was in sad shape physically now, but wait until he was cured from the hospital!

Minespiderskincave

The heroes were given horses and some equipment to search out this new villain. They arrived at a building where the villain stood on top. He taunted the students and called for his arachnid friends to attack our heroes while cowardly retreating into his hole in the ground. The spiders were not much competition for the party. While they were fighting these beasts, a giant spider destroyed our heroe’s transportation, but they continued their quest with little other injury. As they traveled further down the hole, they discovered tons of stolen magic from the academy that were to be used against them. This emboldened our party as they realized they had solved Cymantha Ferhety‘s riddle. As they ventured further, they battled more spiders and heard voices further yet down the tunnel. They found a drow elf that pulled a whiney and ineffective accomplice through a portal and Stormy Johnny stood alone to destroy our heroes with every magical device he had. With one fierce look and some commanding words, Elegyn destroyed Johnny’s morale as Johnny proclaimed himself to the party. A wicked fire ball left Johnny’s wand and then the party was on top of him. Once again he attempted a successful escape through a secret passage that left the tunnels. Even Oaklyn was successfully eluded! The party discovered the magical equipment was enough to arm an army and put some stregnth into the evil of the world!

Our heroes reported their finds to Cymantha Ferhetyand were justly rewarded for their heroism. Allynn was given Johnny’s fire wand and several magical weapons were awarded.

The adventurers survived another session, avoiding being made a meal out of by some hungry spiders the size of large dogs. Seeking to uncover who was stealing magical tools and items from Narvesyn school the discovered a web on intrigue involving a treacherous Elf student, a mysterious halfling, a local bandit chief and self proclaimed wizard “stormy Johnny” and a beautiful but elusive Shadow Elf.

The group, Allynn, Elygyn, J. Hawkyns, Rabbye, and Strawberry had been studying at Narvesyn Schoolto help fulfill their own personal ambitions, and to find adventure. Master Cymantha Ferhetyassigned them to go and meet with a courier Morgan O’Malley, to retrieve two backpacks with content important to the school.

They began their adventures at a rest stop off the road with a curiously empty circle of land in front of it. As it got dark, Rabbye and Elygyn with Oaklyn decided to explore the area and J. Hawkyns decided to turn on the lamps for more light. Apparently, one of those lamps had a little more to it than giving light. As soon as its shutters were opened, hurricane force winds suddenly burst from the confines of the lamp, battering the group mercilessly.

While they were recovering, a group of thieves decided to take advantage of the situation by looting the group. They were sorely mistaken as to their victims’ weakness. Strawberry lead the group with amazing and deadly precision as the group claimed swift victory over the would be thieves. Allynn showed that his strength of magic was not the only power that enemies would have to contend with. He showed he was very good at cracking thieves over the head with his staff, and they usually didn’t wake up. One of the thieves was semi conscious, but when questioned, would only repeat the words “Stormy Johnny” over and over, like a plea. When the group members asked who Stormy Johnny was, he revealed himself as if by magic, announced himself and another fight ensued.

Realizing that they were outclassed, the surviving thieves retreated and a line of backup forces fired missles at the group from the cover of the trees around the waystation. Elygyn and Rabbye followed Stormy Johnny who bolted, for a while, but retreated when the missle fire became more and more accurate. They quickly learned that a group is much stronger than individuals.

When the arrows ceased and the rest of the thieves fled the area, the group set out to after Stormy Johnny. They found him some distance away, presumably dead, but didn’t find many valuables on his person. Soon they found the missing coach and a backpack, but there was no woman or bodies. Tracks led to the Doom Swamps nearby, and ruins could be seen through the miasma hanging there. As a group, they ventured inside to find what fate awaited them.

As they searched the lair, they made quick work of a pile of bones, err… skeletons that got in the way. J. Hawkyns showed that clerics can deal with the undead in powerful and effective ways as he commanded them to turn, and most retreated harmlessly. They found a lair of rats, and a fighter’s training workout room. In their haste, they almost lost one character to mold poiosoning and they learned about the backdraft phenomenon. They opened a room with a displacer beast that was being tormented by ghouls trying to paralyze it. They were able to destroy the tormentors and safely free the displacer beast into the wild. While going upstairs they learned to always be aware of your surroundings, and that floating suits of armor and wet floors equal trouble! Upstairs discovered the second backpack. They also discovered a trio of wights guarding it, and were clever to escape with some injuries. During their exit, they were surprised to find that the fire they left in the rat lair had begun to burn up the dungeon, and learned that they would have to leave the dungeon for another day.

As they finally left the dungeon, they found Stormy Johnny alive and ticked, waiting for them with a score of thugs. He was very angry after he saw what the group had done to his hideout, and demanded them to drop all weopons and surrender. Several heroes attempted to bluff their way out but were unsuccessful. Finally, as they began to surrender their weopns, Strawberry, with his strong will decided it was not his day to surrender. As he laid down his weapons, he pulled out the hurricane lamp and showed Stormy and his crew that this weapon could work both ways. Realizing what was about to happen, Stormy Johnny screamed a warning but too late, Strawberry whipped open the lamp doors and Johnny and his gang were caught up in the howling winds.

After the adventure was finished our heroes returned to Narvesyn Schooland reported their findings to Cymantha Ferhety. Cymantha was very disturbed by the revelation of so many undead at the old, abandoned fighter’s academy. As knowledge was exchanged, our heroes learned that they had just skimmed the top of a plot that was begining to unfold, and they were going to be in the middle of it!

Next time, let's go to market instead

In the far outlying areas of Nevamyr, old people were disappearing at night. Sir Tristan, a very promising, late year student at the Symmon’s Fighter Academy gets an invitation to a tournement at the Black Knights estate. Confident in his abilites, but nervous about his master Cymantha Ferhety’s cryptic insistence he attend, Sir Tristan invites some of his friends from the school along: Allynn Strawberry & Rabbye. Feherty approves the move and instructs them to investigate what they can while Sir Tristan participates in the tournement.

Posing as squires to Tristan, the three uncover a cult at work in the keep and discover Agryl is actually the real Black Knight’s son. His father passed away and left him nothing material but the castle grounds and keep, so Agryl’s allied himself with the cult for power. The group rescued an old woman, Gerty and a young woman, Adryanna, who turns out to be a potential student at Narvesyn. Gerty reveals the Tournement came about because of her and other elderly prisoners’ memories of the previous Black Knight and how he went about making allies after he turned from Nevmyr and the Duchy of Tansun. The group leaves the grounds under the protection of 4 other knights attending the tournement after breaking up the cult activity and accidentally killing a young knight who sought to be an Avenger and Agryl’s old butler. The Black Knight allows them to leave, but swears revenge on them and the school.
